cause of urinary incontinence
Posted in Household Helpers & Personal Care on 08/27/2010 09:58 pm by adminUrinary Incontinence/Lap Banding?
I’m 155kgs and am researching the process to have the Lap Banding procedure done, I see at one site it said being morbidity obese will cause Urinary Incontinence is this correct cause if I drink a litre of water I’ll pee 4 times during the next hour and god forbid I have a drink after 6.00pm unless I have a need to pee the bed.
Incontinence can happen for many reasons. Outside of nerve damage, the way to prevent this is to exercise your pelvic floor muscles. Why do you not try Pilate’s first before going for lap banding? The reason I say this, because I have Rheumatoid Arthritis. I was having a flare in my neck so had to wear a soft collar, annoying. Anyway one day in Town I was chatting to a Lawyer I knew, just chatting and we finished and we went seperate ways. No sooner had I walked twenty steps around the corner, Biblical Flood. I am not over weight! Yep wet me jeans right in the niddle of Town! So I removed my fleece jacket and wrapped that around my waist, went to my car, got the dog plastic cover, put that on the drivers seat and drove home. By the time I arrived it was COLD. I came in, started getting my tousers off and called to my Mother who used to be a Nurse ‘I just wet my panys in Town WTF!’ Mother eventualy arrived, calm, cool while I was putting my wet clothing in the washing machine then had a shower. I got dressed came out and Mother said ‘Will you go to the Shop as I need….’ I am thinking I just wet myself and you expect me to go out and perhaps do it again? I said ‘But I wet myself?’ Mother said ‘Yes I know, it is to be expected?’ WTF? Seems the inflammation in the neck, caused the signals to be slow, slower, slowed to the other parts and so the signal of full bladder failed to get back. Now with RA you get Muscle Atrophy, the muscle waste and to be honest exercise outside of walking, come on pull the other leg. Years later I went to PT referred by my Doc and they gave me some simple Pilate’s exercises. I got on really well, problem solved and the Hospital PT simply said ‘Would you consider taking up Pilate’s?’ I replied ‘Only if you have a Class for people like me, no point in going in with fit healthy muscular males!’ They did and I signed on. It was one hour per week, mind you after that I had to collapse into bed, exhausted. At the end of Nine Months, I was told that I was to be moved into Advanced Class? Hold on a second I was and to my knolwedge am in Beginners Class? Seems not, seems I started in Beginners, went through intermediate and now was ready for Advanced, with those young healthy fit teenagers!
Now exercise to loose weight, is a uphill battle. However Pilate’s is all about learning what muscles do what, how to engage those muscles, how to disengage those muscles. Just by learning to isolate certain muscle groups, learning how to engage them and diengage them, you are exercising. I lost two stone in Nine months with one hour lesson a week, I put muscle on where it was never before. Moreover, I was never under cardio stress, never breathless, did not strain or damage any joints. Now my bladder control is excellent, along with my pelvic floor muscles and no tummy bulge! I then took up Aqua Jogging and the first day the PT who does the class said ‘OMG you have excellent Muscle Tone!’ I am thinking the body is falling apart, which it might be but as least I have muscles? Try it, you have nothing to loose except one hour a week. Good Luck

Conservative Treatment of Male Urinary Incontinence and Erectile Dysfunction
$61.98 This work covers the anatomy, physiology and the continence mechanism of the male lower urinary tract. The different prostatic conditions are discussed in detail, together with the range of medical and surgical investigations and treatments. The various types of incontinence are explained, and a comprehensive classification of male urinary incontinence tabulated. The subjective and objective physiotherapy assessment is covered chronologically to enable the clinician to conduct a meaningful investigation and arrive at a logical diagnosis. Recommended conservative treatment options are provided for each type of incontinence, with a range of patient advice added for completeness. There are two chapters on the aetiology and conservative treatment of erectile dysfunction which are based on an extensive literature research. Neurobiology of Incontinence
$175 Incontinence is a very common and often devastating problem, but one that goes largely unacknowledged. In order to elucidate the underlying mechanisms of this major clinical condition, this symposium brought together neuroscientists working on the basic biology of the bladder and bowel and clinicians dealing with the various manifestations of urinary and fecal incontinence. The resulting coverage is broad and includes papers on the innervation and functional anatomy of the urinary tract and anorectal region, and the central neural control of these areas. Other contributions discuss the functional assessment of the anorectum and bladder, stress incontinence and the neurogenic hypothesis of incontinence, detrusor-external sphincter dyssynergia, and pharmacological and surgical approaches to treatment. |
